Buying a Ring

Buying a ring can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing.
The first think you should consider is how much you want to spend,
there is a rule of thumb that a man should spend two and a half times his monthly salary on an engagement ring.

Although i'm a little sceptical on this and think it may have been publicised by a jeweller.

another Diamond rings start at around £200 for a new one and £40 for a second hand version.

Someone with a bigger expenditure might want to splash out a little more.
Some platinum Diamond rings can cost as much as £10,000+

You can either buy a ring before you propose or buy one together afterwards.

If you decide to buy the ring before you propose be sure you know what she wants!
Does she normally wear gold jewellery or silver jewellery?

Has she dropped any hints on what type of ring she would like?

Can you raid her jewellery box to gauge her ring size?

If you can place one of her rings on your finger and mark with a pen how far it goes on.

The most popular type of engagement ring is a classic solitaire in a simple setting.
Most women find any kind of shiny diamond ring hard to resist.

If you have decided to pick the ring when she has said yes (and save your money in case she says no) have a special gift ready for when you pop the question.

An empty handed proposal may not get the desired response.
You could buy a temporary ring for her to wear until you get chance to buy one together.

A special locket, pendant or diamond earrings would also be a nice token to show her that you have thought about the proposal.
