Asking her Father

It is tradition for the man to ask the prospective father-in-law permission to marry his daughter.

This may seem old fashioned but it shows respect for your future father-in-law and it is always a good idea to keep on his good side if he will be paying for some of the wedding!

Getting your future wife's parents on board early on will make the wedding plans less stressful in the long run.

To increase the odds of him agreeing to you marrying his daughter you may want to sweeten him up by taking him out to the pub for a drink, tickets to watch his favourite football team or treat him to a birani at the local curry house, but only if he likes curry obviously!

If you live a long distance from him write a letter or give him a call.
Emails and text messages are probably best avoided.
“Can I marry ur daughter?” doesn't look like you have put in that much thought to asking him.

Even if you already have a good relationship with your potential father in law it is still a nerve wracking experience.

Just take a deep breath, be brave and go for it!
If he says no - so what?!
It's up to your future bride at the end of the day! You're only asking him to be polite.

Some men also ask for permission from their future wife's mum, although this is not essential it helps build a stronger relationship with your future in-laws.
You may want to go around to you girlfriends house when you know she will be out and speak to both of her parents at once.

If your girlfriend has a step father its a good idea to ask him to, although its always advisable to as her biological father first.
